Scruffy

I read the following on a blog today:

"I hate having possessions that I get precious about. Would rather have things that look better the more scruffs they get." - Boodiba

I liked the way she phrases it. Scruffy. Like an old dog. It's so true too. The best things are ones that you value more the older and "scruffier" they get. The old dog (or cat), your favorite shirt, an old Jeep, lifting gloves. This attitude is the opposite of the craving for the "shiny". That attitude sets the moment of greatest value the instant before you get something. Downhill after that. I think it breeds the wastefulness and unhappiness that makes people have serial marriages, new cars, the latest gadget, etc.
