I think this sums up what makes a great sci-fi and adventure story. From Anathem by Neal Stephenson.
" Our opponent is an alien starship packed with atomic bombs. We have a protractor."
Like owning a Jeep, riding a mountain bike down a hill at 30 mph or going to the gym 4 times a week even though you are too "busy". You either get it or you don't.
